Astute and very resourceful, Vanlof closely studied the magical arts secretly taught by a witch cult at the time. Pursued by the authorities and accused of countless crimes against the clergy and the crown, Vanlof cast a spell under his castle that locked him and his servants in another dimension. Legends said that the castle appeared every fifty years for just one night, and whoever broke the spell would have Vanlof's eternal gratitude, becoming the holder of all his riches.
